August 2026: 422 Guests and Counting - Our Busiest Summer Yet
I'm writing this on 27th August with a cup of tea that's gone cold twice already, and I've just done the numbers.
422 guests.
That's 422 people who've walked through our doors this month across Westfield Granary, Corner Farm, The Yard, Bogg Hall Barn and The Wagon Shed. And we've still got a few days left before the school holidays properly wind down.
I knew August would be busy - it always is - but this has been something else entirely.
Weddings, Reunions, and Everything In Between
The thing that's struck me most this month isn't just the numbers. It's the sheer variety of reasons people have chosen to gather here.
We've hosted three weddings - intimate ceremonies where the whole weekend became the celebration, not just the ceremony itself. Family holidays where four generations descended on us, from toddlers discovering hot tubs for the first time to great-grandparents settling into the quiet corners with books and endless tea. Birthday milestones - 30th, 40th, 50th, a spectacular 60th that involved more prosecco than I've seen in one weekend.
The hen parties have been brilliant. Not the stereotype some people imagine when you say "hen do" - these have been groups of women who've known each other for decades, carving out a weekend away from work and family to actually talk to each other properly. Games rooms at 2am, hot tubs under the stars, homemade cocktails in the kitchen, and the kind of laughter that carries across the fields.
And the reunions - school friends who haven't all been in the same room for twenty years, extended families trying to coordinate diaries across three counties, university housemates now with partners and children in tow. Watching these groups arrive separately and slightly awkward, then leave as this completely comfortable unit again, that's the bit that stays with me.
The Bits You Don't See
What you don't see in the photos on Instagram is the absolutely monumental effort that goes into turning properties around between guests when you're this full.
Our cleaning team have been nothing short of heroic this month. We're talking full cleans of properties sleeping 14 to 22 people, often with just a few hours between one group leaving and the next arriving. Every bed stripped and remade to hotel standard. Every hot tub scrubbed. Every wine glass polished. Every surface reset so the next group walks in and it feels like it's been sitting there waiting just for them.
And John, our maintenance man, has basically lived at the properties. When you've got this many people using facilities this intensively, things need attention. The hot tub that developed a minor pump issue at 7pm on a Saturday - John was there within the hour. The outdoor light that went out at The Yard - fixed before breakfast. The temperamental dishwasher at Corner Farm that decided August was the perfect time to have opinions - sorted same day.
I genuinely couldn't have done this month without them!
What Makes It Worth It
There's a moment that happens almost every changeover day. I'm usually doing a final walk-through, checking everything's perfect, and a guest from the departing group will find me to say thank you.
This month, I've lost count of how many times someone's said "it was even better than the photos" or "we didn't want to leave" or - and this one gets me every time - "we've already started planning when we can come back."
One dad, collecting his family after a week celebrating his parents' 50th wedding anniversary, told me it was the first time his whole family had been properly together in years. His mum had dementia, and he'd been anxious about whether she'd cope with the disruption of being somewhere new. But the open-plan living at Corner Farm, the ensuite bedrooms giving everyone their own space, the fact that nobody had to cook or clean or organise anything - it had worked. She'd been relaxed. They'd had her properly present with them for five whole days.
That's the bit that makes the long days and the cold tea and the 11pm phone calls about a missing corkscrew completely worthwhile.
August 2027 Is Already Filling
Here's the thing I need to tell you, because I'm already having conversations about this almost daily.
August 2027 dates are disappearing fast.
We've got regular guests - families who come back year after year - who book their next August before they've even left. Smart, really, because they know. August in Yorkshire, in properties like ours, with the flexibility to bring the dog and Granny and the teenager who only surfaces for hot tub time - these weeks don't hang around.
I've already got several weeks fully booked across all four properties for next August. Some school holiday weeks have just single properties left. Still a Few Days Left
I'm writing this on the 27th, and we've still got groups in residence until the end of the month. The final family holiday of the summer, a birthday celebration that I suspect is going to make excellent use of that swim spa, a reunion that's been 18 months in the planning.
So that 422 number? It's going to climb a bit higher yet.
And then September arrives, and we get a moment to breathe, well kind of, before autumn bookings start, and we finally get round to a refresh of paintwork and other snags that have been bothering me since July.
But for now, I'm just grateful. Grateful to every single person who chose us for their celebration this month. Grateful to the team who've made it possible. Grateful to Mum for sorting endless piles of laundry and helping with the children whilst I've been fielding phone calls and emails. And grateful that we get to do this - create the spaces where these memories happen.
Even if my tea's gone cold again.
